Meet Dr. O’Dell
Dr. O’Dell is a board certified pediatrician who is passionate about providing high quality, personalized medical care to children of all ages. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, he has been a Wolverine ever since attending the University of Michigan for his undergraduate degree. He then attended Boston University for his Masters of Public Health where he learned how to impact the health of a community. Dr. O’Dell moved back to the midwest to attend medical school at the University of Toledo and completed his pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
During his residency training, Dr. O’Dell learned not only about how to care for the sickest children, but also the many flaws with the healthcare system. The traditional insurance based fee-for-service system focuses on billing for acute and chronic health issues with little attention to preventive health or healthy lifestyle. Between prior authorizations, fifteen minute appointments, and insurance companies dictating medical decisions, Dr. O’Dell knew there had to be a better way to deliver healthcare. This is when he discovered direct primary care (DPC) as an alternative health model to keep kids healthy.
He believes that children deserve the highest quality healthcare to not only prevent illness in childhood, but also later in life. This begins with providing individualized care recognizing that all children are unique, and so are their health needs. Another crucial component is a strong relationship between Dr. O’Dell and your family, including open communication.
Dr. O’Dell believes that the goal of primary care is to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent illness when possible, but also be able to manage acute and chronic illness when they occur. Insurance companies and hospital systems complicate medical decision making when it really should be between your family and your doctor. Medicine is about doing what is right for the patient and the DPC model allows for this. Dr. O’Dell uses the most up to date research to provide quality, comprehensive care and is continuously learning new information to benefit his patients.
