FAQs
What is a DPC practice and why choose it?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) or concierge medicine is a unique model of delivering healthcare that values the doctor-patient relationship above all. Decision making between you and your doctor without insurance companies complicating things is the way healthcare was meant to be. Having health insurance alone does not mean you are receiving the best care for your child. Traditional healthcare is fee-for-service meaning the quantity of patients is more important than the quality of care. Origin is different by using this alternative model. We provide high quality, personalized care in exchange for a monthly/annual fee. All visits are included whether we see you once a month or ten times per month, and by taking fewer patients, we can have extended appointments with minimal waiting. DPC is spreading quickly across the United States as families realize the many benefits. We are proud to be the first pediatric specific DPC practice in the metro Detroit area!
Do you accept health insurance?
No, we do not accept private insurance, Medicaid or Medicare. Following the DPC model, we accept a monthly or annual fee in exchange for primary care medical services. To be clear, Origin Pediatrics is not a health insurance plan and we strongly recommend you continue to carry a health insurance plan for medical care outside of Origin Pediatrics.
Can I afford being a member?
Yes, at $7 or less per day for the best pediatric care, this is the best $7 you can spend on your children! With 24/7 phone access, along with same day or next day visits and unrushed appointments, the benefits will be apparent. You will also save by avoiding copays and urgent care visits as well.
Is there a fee to join?
Yes, there is a one time enrollment fee of $125 per patient due upon signing up. Family maximum of $250.
How do I pay for my membership?
After the enrollment fee, your credit card, debit card or bank account will be automatically charged once per month unless you signed up for an annual membership. Your form of payment will remain on file for one time payments if applicable.
What is NOT included in my membership?
Origin is not a health insurance plan and does not take the place of health insurance. It is important for your child to still have some form of health insurance to cover medical care not included in your membership. Membership does not include blood draws, imaging or medication obtained outside of Origin Pediatrics. Vaccines are not included. Specialist consults, ER visits, urgent care, hospitalizations and surgeries are also not included and would be billed through your health insurance.
Do you offer house calls?
YES! This is part of what makes our practice unique. We include house calls for all newborns to 2 months old. After that, they can be offered at the doctor’s discretion based on distance (10 mile radius) and availability.
What about vaccines?
At this time, we are unable to offer vaccines in office due to financial constraints. We can assist in finding a location for vaccines if you would like and we will discuss them during our well visits.
What if I want to cancel my membership?
You may cancel your membership at any time with 30 days’ written notice to the office. There are no refunds offered for fees already charged unless a yearly membership was selected. In this case, a prorated refund will be given. There is a re-enrollment fee of $400 if you decide to re-enroll at a later time after cancelling.
Is Origin Pediatrics accepting new patients?
Yes, at this time we are accepting new patients, but due to the DPC model of care, there is a limited number of spots available.
